If you have Ariba, you must move to Ariba’s Cloud Integration Gateway, or CIG, before Dec. 31, 2023. There will be no additional maintenance provided by Ariba for CI9 after that date. Ariba is suggesting that the time to firm up your company’s plans for that move is now. But there are a couple of key points that you need to know for planning that upgrade: 1. How long it takes to move to CIG, and 2. Your options for moving to CIG.

CIG is an incredibly robust integration tool that provides a single integration gateway from an ERP, such as S/4HANA, to the Ariba Network to offer a centralized transactional space. This excellent blog from SAP is a great read for an in-depth look at how CIG can transform your processes, however, there are a couple of key points that you need to know for planning your upgrade.
The original sunset date for the SAP Ariba Cloud Integration (CI) solution, which includes the CI-9 support package (SP) 1 and SP2 as well as SAP Business Suite add-on was Dec. 21, 2021. Ariba began suggesting that customers begin the process of moving to CIG in 2019, but then moved that sunset date to Dec. 31, 2023.
That means that two years is probably a safe bet for planning your transition. The amount of time to deploy CIG itself is typically only a few months, but depending on the number of modules and ERPs you have, this process may take longer. Also, as we note in most of our educational blogs, the process will probably vary depending on several other factors, such as company size.
There are two options for CIG: an add on or full CIG enablement with a new Ariba deployment.
New integration deployments are often challenging for customers that are trying to implement upgrades without any downtime or confusion. Experts in Ariba are well-versed in the communication, training, and deep system experience needed to guide a smooth transition.
There are plenty of Ariba consulting firms that can help you with this important transition, and we strongly suggest you work with a professional service to ensure optimal success.
