Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG)

If you have Ariba, you must move to Ariba’s Cloud Integration Gateway, or CIG, before Dec. 31, 2023. There will be no additional maintenance provided by Ariba for CI9 after that date. Ariba is suggesting that the time to firm up your company’s plans for that move is now.

Editor’s Note:

This post was updated on April 21, 2023 to reflect an upcoming name change. SAP announced that the name of the Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG) is changing to the "SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network”. No deadlines for integration/migration are affected. Read more in our article on Upcoming Ariba Name Changes.

What is CIG?

The Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG) is an incredibly robust integration tool that provides a single integration gateway from an ERP, such as S/4HANA, to the Ariba Network to offer a centralized transactional space. This excellent blog from SAP is a great read for an in-depth look at how CIG can transform your processes, however, there are a couple of key points that you need to know for planning your upgrade.

1. How long it takes to move to CIG

The original sunset date for the SAP Ariba Cloud Integration (CI) solution, which includes the CI-9 support package (SP) 1 and SP2 as well as SAP Business Suite add-on was Dec. 21, 2021. Ariba began suggesting that customers begin the process of moving to CIG in 2019, but then moved that sunset date to Dec. 31, 2023.

That means that two years is probably a safe bet for planning your transition. The amount of time to deploy CIG itself is typically only a few months, but depending on the number of modules and ERPs you have, this process may take longer. Also, as we note in most of our educational blogs, the process will probably vary depending on several other factors, such as company size.

2. Options for moving to CIG

There are two options for CIG: an add on or full CIG enablement with a new Ariba deployment.

  1. You would choose the add on you want to connect Ariba Buying and Invoicing directly to your ERP system. However, the add on is only available for SAP ERP systems.
  2. Full CIG enablement with a new Ariba Deployment is the option you would choose if you will be using some sort of a middleware, such as MDG.
